The Awkward Probinsyana

In 2021, I wrote Que sera, sera on Twitter (now X). There are only a selected few who know what I went through in the last two years. I had a series of many highs then suddenly followed by even more lows. In 2023, I persevered and got to where I am right now.

To be honest, I still haven't gotten over many of my losses in the last couple of years. I am still sensitive about the topic and my real friends know to not open it up and ask me about it and I am very grateful for that. When 2023 entered, it all really started with a simple prayer: Please don't let me down this time.

By the start of 2023, I already know that I am moving to a different country. But that was also how I started my 2022, so when 2023 had the same beginning, I prayed really hard that it wouldn't be the same heartbreak over again. So when I talk to people who are helping me, I sound uninterested and unhappy. Maybe it was my way to prepare myself for whatever was coming. I just don't want to get my hopes up again and be heartbroken in the end.

FFW to today, I am now in the UK. Working in the healthcare industry, which I always wanted as a kid. As a child, I grew up wanting to be a doctor that's why I took up clinical psychology. Who knew fate had other plans for me. As I said in my year-ender post on Facebook: Started 2023 with a prayer, ending 2023 with the answer. God's answer this time was a yes.

So maybe, I will start 2024 with another prayer and let the Lord decide on what is best for me.

Happy new year, everyone! Cheers to new beginnings!

It has been over seven days since I arrived in the UK and approximately a year ago when I first visited the country and decided that it would be good to consider a BIG move. And so, it happened.

It was a pretty bold move for me. After only 2 days in the UK, I already started going to work. At the same time, I am giving myself some space to process the changes both with work and the culture. I have been in a corporate setting for quite some time so I am still adjusting to more physical work. So far, I am learning a lot of things but I must admit that I get anxious from time to time. As someone who is particular to detail and is afraid of making mistakes, sometimes I am hesitant to take initiative. I really hope that in time, I will get over this feeling.

For now, I still spend my off days in bed. I just feel like I went straight to work too soon and I kind of get tired easily. I off-boarded from my last job on the 26th of June and my flight to the UK was scheduled immediately on the 4th of July. By the 7th, I already started training. That's how fast-paced my life has been since then.

Anyway, I can't wait to share more of my adventures in the next coming days. I would really try to do my best to document everything. It is nice to look back on my adventures through this blog after all.

Till next time, luvs!

We all wake up daily and promise to be better versions of ourselves. Often, we fail our own expectations and then become cruel to ourselves. I have been in that situation so many times that I lost count. Still, life has its own way of surprising us every day.

In a few weeks, I will be starting a new season in my life and I can't wait to share all the details with you. I just wanted to savor this triumph for a while, without anyone lurking in the background. I am at a point in my life where I just wanted to enjoy things quietly for a while before I share it with the world.

Please continue to pray with me as I work my way towards a new chapter of my life and when I'm ready, I will happily share all the details with you.

Social Media has been feasting on celebrity break-ups left and right. As a swiftie, I also mourned the news about Joe Alwyn and my girl Taylor. But the break-up that strikes me the most is of Moira Dela Torre and Jason Hernandez.

I am not that big of a fan of Moira but I have listened to a couple of her songs. I was of those who reacted positively to their engagement announcement through a music video. I was one of those who shed happy tears in their wedding SDE. So when the news blew up that they were separating, I was taken by surprise. How come this happy Christian couple decided to separate ways? What exactly happened?

I thought it was long over, that news was so 2022 when the ex-husband decided to post teasers of a random girl, adding fuel to a fire that has been so long over. People thought that he was soft-launching a new flame which turns out to be a teaser to a new song, a new song implying that he was still not over Moira. I was one of those who somehow didn't like how it seems like he is commercializing the break-up but then I realized, Moira wrote songs too about it too. But, it somehow feels so disrespectful to add snippets of the proposal and the wedding on the music video when the other person is trying her best to heal. To make it even worst, people from their life started posting online apparently to break the silence.

I've seen all the posts and started wondering how can anybody justify cheating, especially in marriage? How can people blatantly say that the only mistake of the other party is to listen to the call of the flesh like he just lied about spending Saturday night with the boys? And not just with this current issue, we all have witnessed a lot of celebrity cheating issues, spending time with a friend out of town, and eventually admitting to being a couple. I don't get it. If you want out of the relationship, then leave.

Another thing that concerns me is forgiveness. "You're both Christians, why don't you just forgive each other, work it out, and move on" is what I always hear from people who wanted to help couples work it out. It pisses me off somehow because how do you just repair a trust that has been broken? And also, trauma after trauma, how does a person heal?

I am deeply sorry for this couple -- it's hard to heal and I know that, what's harder is they have to deal with it with everyone watching. I just pray that in time, they will both find peace in whatever path they will choose to take in life. Right now, I just wish that people around them will just shut up.

Ria

I had a strange dream last night.

I was in the same high school I attended, sitting in the same spot. Sitting beside the same people. Hanging around on the same stairs as my best friend and I used to before classes started. The only difference is that I know that it happened in the present day. I am waiting for the same documents that I am waiting for now. And one of my friends from college was with me in class.

But the same damn person was sitting right across from me. The teacher decided to shuffle the seating arrangements, with me secretly hoping that person gets transferred to the empty seat beside me. Like the old times, like we used to. I don't know why until now I still wish for that to happen. Maybe because it reminded me of the simpler times. It reminded me of how easy life was before becoming an adult. Maybe because I was so happy then, and I work desperately hard to find happiness now.

Going back to my dream, I didn't see what happened next. Whether he got transferred to the seat next to me or I got the documents on time. My dream ended abruptly and I was thinking about it the moment I woke up. All I know is that every time I am in bad shape and stuck in another depression rut, I dream about these little moments in my core memory. Moments that kept me going and reminded me that I was once this happy little person. Reminding me that it wasn't always this bad.

Until I see you in my dreams again, but this time with a happier version of myself. 🩷

Hey there! Just a quick check-in here. I'm sure you've all been doing great, but I'll let you know how I've been doing. ⏩I've been in a slump for the past few months and it feels like no one cares. Does anyone still read blog posts btw? 🤔 Hehe

Anyhoooo, I'm not sure if you've heard, but I turned 31 a couple of weeks ago. But, do you ever feel like being your age? Sometimes or most of the time rather, I still feel like I just turned 21! Maybe because I watch too much Disney. 😅 I had a small celebration—I just went out to dinner with my family 👪, and it was really nice. Then a couple of weeks ago, I went to eat out with some of my college besties 👯. I missed them so much! 💜

Aside from catching up with some friends, I'm finally catching up on my reading! 😃 I've been enjoying some interesting books 📚 lately. I'm currently reading Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover. I've been a CoHo fan since I finished Ugly Love and even before Kathryn hyped It Ends With Us. Though I wouldn't want to be in those kinds of Toxic relationships, tbh! 😖 I am also currently reading Empathy in Action by our beloved CEO, Tony Bates. We got free hard copies! Yay, employee perks! 💛

It's almost July! 🤯 I can't believe it. 🤯 Where did the time go? 😃 I'm just going to blabber here for a minute: in the next few months, I have a couple of plans lined up that I hope will make me a better person and help me live my life more authentically. 👍

So, yeah—let's do this!! Self, I'm rooting for you! 👍👍👍

XO 💗

I can still remember the time when I started blogging, we always put our age in the "About Me" section. Lol. Well, I don't do that now. Which reminds me, I think I need to check mine if it is still stuck with the " A 20-Something *insert adjectives here*" intro because I am no longer 20 something. Yep, based on the photo, I recently turned 31. 👩

I always dread going into the next 10 years of my life without a life partner IYKWIM. When I was younger, I always wish for someone I could spend the rest of my life with. IDK what happened lol, my only prayer right now is that my parents would live through it until the day they would finally FINALLY walk me down the aisle. 👸 lol. Anyway, at this point, I just wanted a peaceful and abundant life.

I may never have had fancy celebrations, in fact, my birthdays are always kinda sad. Being the carer of the family, I just don't have so much energy to put on my own birthday. BTW, Strawberry Shortcakes are enough. 💛🍓

I may not have as many friends as I have back when I was 20, but I am so glad to have found real ones in this lifetime. I am thankful that I have a roof over my head, I eat complete meals a day, and I have a family who loves me. Whatever or whoever it is that my heart longs for, I know that at the right time, and in the right setup - everything will fall into place as planned by God. 💕

I am very much thankful to all those who remembered. 💜 On to a new chapter, cheers! 🍷

Muni-Muni - reflection/reflecting, pondering.

While I'm writing this entry, I am almost done with all my meetings for this year. Unless another one comes up in the next two days. We are actually given time to have a break and I honestly need this well-deserved break. What a year it has been! I don't know, it is a year that has played with my mental health, physical health, and my emotions. I don't how I made it, but somehow I survived - with flying colors. 💛

It may be because we're stuck at home since March 2020 and the only places that went to were groceries, hospitals, etc. Or maybe because I haven't seen anybody else for over 12 months. Maybe I miss eating at my favorite fast-food restaurants that are not available nearby. 😢 Probably because losing a loved one all of a sudden is the hardest -- or losing another one a few months after maybe harder. 😢 I don't know but with God's grace, I am still here -- alive and kicking and writing this entry. Or is it because I still got sick despite staying at home most of the time? My faith was almost shaken and I wanted to give up right then and there. Or was it because of people with judging looks on their faces? Not knowing what you're going through, not knowing how you managed to survive and sustain the needs of everyone who relies on you. 2021, you were pretty hard on me. But somehow, I am here.

Despite all of these, seeing the smile on the faces of the people I love is worth every teardrop I have shed in the last 12 months. 💛 The wagging tails of my dogs is enough reason to keep going. The dreams that nanay left all of a sudden are enough to keep on dreaming. 💛 And all the battles that I have won are enough to keep on fighting. 💛 I may not still understand why I had to go through all of these but someday I will. I will look back with a brave face and tell myself that it was worth it. 💙 Thank you, dear self for fighting. 💙

And in a couple of weeks, my dear you'll be in a better place. 🌙 Everything will make sense one day, all you have to do for now is to live one day at a time. 💜 Make mistakes but bounce back! Break your heart but never settle. By now, I truly believe that with everything that you went through, you've learned your lessons. 👩

To everyone who stayed, thank you. To those who believed in me, I appreciate you.

And to those who loved me, I thank God for you.

We're ending April in quarantine! 😞 How time flies. It's been 2 months that we're in quarantine. I am not really the outdoor type of person but there are some activities that I really do miss a lot. 😞 As we all know, even after the Enhanced Community Quarantine is lifted, we will still follow a "new normal". But what is a new normal, really?

The new normal basically aims to ensure that we still practice social distancing until we have defeated this virus. For example, when we return to work in our offices they suggest that we follow a skeletal workforce system. Although for us, we will be working remotely until the 31st of May for now and we're still waiting for further advice.

I guess that means more themed zoom meetings for us! It is quite a challenge for someone like me who hates video conferences. 😕 Never in my life have I thought that I will be at home all day while working. 💁 For me, the new normal in my home town feels like 1997. Less transportation, cleaner air, peaceful surroundings. While writing this I can finally hear the birds chirping again after a while. No malls to go to so little Ria is stuck at home.

What's sad about this though is I must admit I am also the type to bail out on my friends the last minute. But now I really do miss them a lot and the new normal will not allow us to loiter in the wee hours of the morning anymore. Who knows, since we are now in different companies maybe we will also have different schedules. The lesson from this entire shenanigan is to never take anything and anyone for granted.

I really pray that this all ends soon. I miss the usual routine except for EDSA traffic.
I hope everyone's doing well. After this, I hope we can all finally hug our loved ones.

Ria <3

A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep
In dreams, you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for you keep

I think I now believe in Cinderella that dreams are little wishes that our heart makes. 💗 And why did I suddenly want to write about dreams? 😶 To be honest, I have recurrent dreams of a person (I will not say who) but this is definitely somebody I know and we go way back. LIKE WAY WAY BACK. 😆 Anyway, I always dream about this person and surprisingly, dreams with him on it are by far the best dreams I have 😆 and then I got curious as to what these dreams meant so I googled. 😅

I don't really want to give a hint about who this person is. 😅 But just in case my 2019 crush accidentally sees this, this is definitely not you just to be clear. 😅 Okay, so this is a recurring dream that I've been having for so long. I usually share my dreams with my best friend but since she's married now, I am not 100% certain that she's still interested in my ramblings about this person. My dreams are usually about us just being our authentic selves, usually in my old Manila neighborhood. He's welcomed (now you know the person is a he) by my family, usually by my mom. Then that's it. The focus of the dream is on him and on us. Most of the time, I don't remember the rest of the dream when I wake up. All I can remember is that I was with him.

courtesy of: https://dreamingandsleeping.com/why-do-i-keep-dreaming-about-the-same-person/
Can we just highlight that recurring dreams about the same person can be extremely difficult especially if I want to really forget about this person?? 💔 Just kidding, I just want to keep him in my dreams forever. It's just weird because I don't really think about this person that much already since it has been years, yet he still appears like a ghost in my past that won't seem to die. 😪

How about you guys? Are you having recurring dreams too?

Let's talk about it! ♡

How will I remember the year 2020? We're not even halfway yet but there's so much that has been going on. Despite all of it, let's still remember our small victories just to take our minds off the dilemma that we are all facing.

When we started the community lockdown, actually 2 days before the announcement our company has already decided to do a skeletal workforce system. For us, what's supposed to happen is that we are provided a new schedule for the days where we are expected to be in the office but since then the Covid-19 cases in the Philippines worsen so the CEO has decided that it is safer for everyone to just do remote work. 😊 I was so grateful since I am always at risk due to my commute. Imagine riding a full packed bus to work, how do I protect myself from that? 😐 During that time when they have finalized the decision, I still have a lot of tasks to do so I still carried on with my usual work routine. However, in just a span of 2 weeks, the situation seems to have taken a toll in the global economy so were advised to hold everything off and just make sure to keep the people that we have within the company. Another thing that I have faced during this entire quarantine situation is some employees are not confident that their colleagues are actually working from home since they can't monitor each other. In my opinion, this is not the right time for office politics, this is the time where we should be working together. 🙅

Going back, since we don't have much to do for work right now I have decided to finally purchase theawkwardprobinsyana.com. Just a bit of a history here, I was theawkwardprobinsyana in tumblr since 2009/2010 if I am not mistaken. I've had a lot of usernames just like everyone else but I think TAP is what has made me who I am as a blogger. 💛 I've attended Tumblr meet-ups way back as The Awkward Probinsyana. If there's one positive effect of Covid-19 in my life then this will be it. Reigniting my passion for blogging & writing.

I don't know how much longer I can carry on with this entire situation. Still grateful though that I get to earn my normal salary despite just lounging in front of my work desk. 💙 Every time I watch the news and see people suffering daily because of the pandemic, it really makes me sad. 😖 How I really wish that everything will end soon.

How about you? How are you guys holding up?
I am hoping and praying for everyone's safety. It starts within us you know? I know this is really difficult but if it's not really important, let's just stay home ok? 💚 If we are able, let us continue to provide support to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. We can get through this as one family. 💜

I love you all my dear fairies.

It's only the fourth month of the year but I know all of us are already tired of the surprises that 2020 brought along. A global pandemic 😷, natural disasters -- name it, we faced it this year and we're not even close to the first half of the year. 💔

I just wanted to remember that despite everything that is happening, good things are still bound to happen. 💛 After all, we're still fortunate to wake up each day and see new hope. 🌞

Coronavirus has slowed down a lot of things since its outbreak. On a positive note, it gave time to pause a little from the fast-paced corporate that I've been tolerating for 7 years now. 😌 I just wanna reflect on a few good things that has been happening in my life and still be thankful. 💛
  • I've reclaimed the throne; www.theawkwardprobinsyana.com is back. 👸 I already planned to purchase the domain back in 2017 but kept on postponing but since I have more time in my hands right now, I've decided to finally purchase it.
  • It's finally APRIL my second favorite month of the year. 💙 Yeah, I know. I'm always abnormally sad during the Aries season but I've lived with it for a couple of years so I'm not bothered anymore. 💚 I can't wait to binge-watch all the best friend movie cliches on the 5th of April. 👫💕
  • I'm grateful to be with my family during this entire quarantine scenario. 😌 When the numbers of the infected of the virus in the Philippines started to rise, I am secretly scared that I'll be stuck in Manila with no place to go. Luckily, I was already one of the few who were allowed to work remotely before the government decided to lock the city down. 😌
  • With that said, I am grateful for the privilege that I have. 💖 Not everyone has the luxury to work comfortably in their own homes. 😭 Let us continuously pray for those who have lost their livelihood during this pandemic. May they find comfort at this trying times and receive the help that they needed.

" If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. " - 2 Chronicles 7:14

I pray that this will be all over soon & we'll finally be able to hug our families and friends once again. I pray that all our frontliners -- everyone who works hard to fight with the virus. 💗 We can overcome all adversities if we work together and pray together. 😊

Much Love,

Ria ❤

You gotta step into the daylight, and let it go.
It's been a while since I opened my blog and write something. But to start off, I wanna let everyone know that I think I am in a better place than before. Not literally, but mentally. LOL. I know I've been quite unstable a few months back and I have been very vocal about it in my previous posts. My only outlet is this blog that's why I can't really let go with the traditional way of blogging. 😀

Anyway, I have lots of stories to tell - First, I got a new job. I'm not saying that my previous job is no good. It's just that sometimes, if your career is your top priority - great opportunities will knock on your door and you just can't let it pass. That is exactly what happened to me. At the moment, my family is also on top of my priority list and if there are employment opportunities that would cover both my personal needs and the needs of my parents - I would definitely consider it. All praise to our Almighty God for all his provisions as well. ❤

Next --- I met really amazing but sometimes annoying friends. I think going out with them helped me with my anxiety/depression as well. They never knew anything about it though. I am trying my best to be the happiest person I can be whenever I go out with them. I don't wanna be labeled as a party pooper. 😂

I also met someone that I really liked in an instant. I know, it's another story to tell but let me just put it this way. This person doesn't even know I like him just because I don't want him to. He's a good friend and I want to keep him in my life so I'd rather keep him as a friend than not to keep him at all. Also, surprise! He's got a girl. Ouch 💔

Well, for now, I guess that's it. As usual, my thoughts are once again scattered and words are all over the place. Will try my best to share more stories with you.

Oderint Dum Metuant: Let them hate, so long as they fear

It's 2019, how time flies. I didn't even realized how swiftly 2018 came and went. I have been through so much the past year that it became so physically exhausting that I get sick most of the time. I wanted to put all the past behind me but it's so difficult 😢 Anyway, I don't really wanted to start a new blog post with sad entries. 😊 I am really hopeful that this year will bring me great things. You know last year, my reputation has been tainted several times LOL - maybe that's why I love Taylor Swift so much because we've got big reputations baby. 😀 Kidding aside, I've made even bigger enemies, had the worst reputation my entire life - but still so much alive and fighting for a better life. 💕 I know I've grown so much hate in my heart that LOVE is almost an impossible sight. I've had people who wish they never knew me or have never met me. People who wish I didn't exist and people who just don't like me around. 😟 This year, I have decided to let go of these worries that people may hate - I WILL JUST LET THEM. Thus, Oderint Dum Metuant - a latin word that meant let them hate, so long as they fear.

Let 2019 be a year of breakthroughs. To whoever is reading this, please be patient with me. I am trying and I wanna start with consistency. I want to be consistent once again especially in blogging. This is my way of release. I need to remind myself not to let this blog go. I have overflowing thoughts and I need to remind myself, especially at times when it's too much to bear, that I have this blog. 💕

Let 2019 be a year of positivity. 💕 Even though there are times when I would once again fail, help me rise up from every fall. Stronger and wiser. Always ready to conquer the world with a smile. Let 2019 be a year full of hope for me and for everyone. I know what it's like to be so down; you almost can't pick yourself up. 😶 But just keep going and never stop. 💞

I missed you, fellow magical girls. May this year be a magical one for us. I am very much hopeful that we would all continue to find the power of fairy dust in our hearts. I am back and will never leave. 💞

XO 💕

Whoa, I can't believe when the last time I opened my blog and shared an update was. To be honest, it took me a while and a few blog reads to relieve my passion in writing something here. With the turn of events, I just can't let my blog go. This has somewhat become my creative outlet and where I could shamelessly share my thoughts. 😀

So what really happened the whole time I was MIA? 😕

I can't remember much of it, really. I have this habit of placing all unpleasant events in my subconscious before it eats me whole. Though I have to admit that I've been in a really difficult situation towards the end of 2017 and of course, in the early months of 2018. 😭 I will not share most parts cause ain't worth it 😒. I took a break from the internet. I took a break from everything that breaks my already broken self 😶 lol. I must say that it paid off. I realized that Social Media plays an ugly game. People will only believe what they've read, they will never ask for your side. 😭

The time I was away, I relieved my love for paperbacks. ❤ I loved Taylor Swift even more.❤ Most importantly, I recognized the best people in my life. It's not about the number of humans that you interact with daily, what matters is that despite having only a few people in your circle you never feel alone. Another thing is, I chopped of my hair and I have never been this confident in a while. ❤

Life doesn't get better in an instant. Bills, problems, issues - they are all coming my way and at times it really gets exhausting. If you are in the same place as I am right now, just keep going. Several times I admit that I want all the hurt to go away already. I thought there's a much better place for me. But then I looked around, I saw my dogs wagging their tails everytime I get home, I saw my mom patiently preparing my meals for the day, my dad who checks up on me from time to time - that's when I realized that life isn't so bad after all. Just believe in yourself and have faith.
